Eye for the future….

The Jambo Hakuna Matata Foundation has been supporting several primary schools in and around Nyeri for years. Classes are large and it is often difficult for children to read the material on the board. Especially if there is reduced vision. Only a few children are allowed to get glasses if this is the case. Parents and/or family often do not have the resources to purchase glasses for their child(ren) or to have an eye test performed. Reason for the JHM foundation to enter into a partnership with the Lombok Eyecare Foundation. The latter foundation is formed by a group of enthusiastic eye measurement experts. They were already active in Asia and now in Kenya. After a pre-screening of 4,000 students, they will fit glasses to those children who have been found to have limited vision. A world will open up for these children. Being able to go to school is in any case a privilege in Kenya, let alone that the lessons can be followed even more effectively with glasses. Glasses… a world of difference.

The eye tests will take place in January 2025 and the aim is for the students involved to receive their new glasses a few days after the eye test. And this is thanks to a great collaboration between two aforementioned foundations, three schools (Nyeri Primary, Nyamachaki Primary and Milimani Primary) and Optica Nyeri. Be that as it may: the eye wants something too…!
